About the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration

The Danish Veterinary and Food Administration (DVFA) is part of the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries. We support our minister and department by implementing political decisions across the entire food chain.

The DVFA operates nationwide and is responsible for a wide range of tasks related to four key societal services:

  • Regulation and control
  • Information and guidance
  • Emergency preparedness
  • International cooperation and trade

Our work helps maintain Denmark’s international position as one of the world’s leading countries in food safety, healthy diets, animal health, and animal welfare. At the same time, we contribute to promoting international cooperation and trade.

We make it easy for both consumers and professionals to find reliable information on how to eat safely, healthily, and sustainably in an era of numerous information sources.

We guide the entire food sector on current regulations, making compliance easier for businesses. A risk-based, effective control approach, combined with a balanced use of guidance and sanctions, ensures compliance with regulations from farm to fork.

We collaborate with other authorities and businesses to prevent and manage foodborne disease outbreaks, infectious livestock diseases, and zoonoses quickly and efficiently—minimizing the impact on people, animals, and industry.
